Preview of NORTHERN SOUL an illustrated history. Here's the brilliant Culture Show programme on the phenomenon that is Northern Soul a uniquely (Northern) British subculture presented by Paul Mason an 'old' soul boy who takes a personal journey back to 'Keeping The Faith' and featuring Elaine Constantine whose forthcoming film (and labour of love) not surprisingly, titled Northern Soul, has exclusive clips featured, and looks pretty damn fine!!!!and what makes the this programme especially poignant is the interviews not only with some of the original participants of this 1970's youth culture but also the newer 'Young Soul Rebel's' who seem to have the same passion and outlook that will keep the faith for the years ahead.

Ezechiel Pailhes(fantastic album-get it!)/Morning,Noon & Night/Gladys Knight & the Pips/Slave one of my all time favourite Funk bands along with the Ohio Players and Cameo,so the passing on of core members 'The Hansolor' Marc Adams Bassist extraordinaire and Mark Hicks guitarist and vocalist is sad news indeed  /Mad House/Dominick Martin (another brilliant album!)/Lucas Arruda/Undisputed Truth/The Spencer Davis Group with a very young Steve Winwood on vocals and Hammond B-3 organ/Swans Way/Spandau Ballet/The Detroit Jazz Composers Ltd/Pockets/Leroy'SugerFoot'Bonner leader of my absolutely favourite band of all time has passed on as well,I kid you not from the first time I heard them ( back in 1975 when I was 15! up to now and 53 in 2013!!)they are still the band and music that as grabbed me by the balls!!! and I include Punk & New Wave in that mix!! so he's gone but the music thankfully lives on,here's a version of Fire that captures SugerFoot and the Player's in all their glory!!! and the way the audience reacts at the end, shows the energy and musicianship that years of jamming and playing together had made this ensemble the best!!! also seeing Leroy playing his double neck guitar,I'm sorry kicks Yes,Jimmy Page and Genesis in to the long grass for me. /Los Hacheros/Kid Creole & The Coconuts/Maze/As One/Machine/Tanger Trio & Ensemble Mondaine (you must track this down and listen,the whole album is incredible!)/Scritti Polliti,that's all for now folk's,enjoy!!.

R.I.P.Mandre(described as a techno-funk pioneer and music-technology innovator,way ahead of his time,do you think he inspired these couple of fine fellows with their stage image? Hmm mm,or maybe he has left it to them to carry on with the mission, because in his earthly guise of Andre Lewis he has moved on to the next level,and taken his sound frequencies to another universe )/Change(with Luther Vandross)/Soul to Soul, and last but not least Sea Level with the classic Sneakers 54!..And yes this mix was 'inspired' by the new Daft Punk single and album especially 'Get Lucky'with the magnificent Nile Rodgers( you should read his excellent autobiography 'Le Freak'
what a story!) and  how the album was being recorded 'old school',
away from the normal for now 'digital' platform and more to back in the
day valves and tubes 'analogue', bearing in mind they could afford the budget which would be beyond most musicians these days! anyways takes me back to  my younger days and shows that good music is never forgotten.........
